All metals will tarnish and dull over time. To slow tarnishing avoid wearing your jewelry in the ocean, swimming pools, showers, and hot tubs etc. Water is extremely destructive. Hairspray, perfume, cleaning products, and body oils will speed tarnishing. If you must wear these products, put your perfume or hairspray on before you put on your jewelry. Store your jewelry in an airtight ziploc bag or jewelers anti-tarnish pouch to slow the tarnishing process.
